Bio

Barry Schumer is a psychotherapist with over four decades of clinical experience, specializing in the treatment of depression and marriage counseling. Barry was in the Lifestyle for over 10 years and understands the unique challenges couples can face.

He earned a master’s degree in clinical social work, taught at three Michigan universities over a 23-year span, and has maintained a private practice for 15 years. Over the course of his career, Barry also developed a unique marriage counseling program with a reported 70% success rate, built on practical tools, honest communication, and a deep respect for what couples are truly up against.

An avid golfer and a lifelong observer of human nature, Barry brings a professional but warm voice to everything he writes, blending insight with comedy and a touch of well-placed sarcasm. His books explore the worlds he knows best: the therapy room, everyday relationships, education, golf, and the larger cultural forces shaping modern life.

Barry is the author of six books: Box Seats to the End: Will the People Save the Republic?, In Defense of Teachers: The Truth about Education in America, Golf: The Addictive, Torturous Game We Love, I Don’t Believe It…We’re Good? The New Detroit Lions, and Tell Me More: Stories From Psychotherapy, Swinging; It’s Just Sex…or is it?. He lived in Michigan most of his life before relocating to Florida, where he now enjoys “paradise,” family time with his wife, and being a proud grandfather to three grandsons.
