Why Humor Matters in Therapy

Humor in therapy is not about making light of pain. it is often a healthy way to reduce tension, lower shame, and make difficult topics easier to talk about.

For many people, laughter creates breathing room. It can help you feel safe enough to open. It can also help you see your situation with a clearer mind.

But humor can become a problem when it is used to avoid serious feelings. if every painful topic turns into a joke, therapy can get stuck. A good therapist uses humor carefully and knows when to slow down and go deeper.

Therapy should feel human. Sometimes that includes tears. Sometimes it includes laughter. both can be part of healing.
